ESL
3years / Full-Time

General English
We offer six levels in ESL program. The first 3 levels are pre-academic, intensive English courses. The full-time ESL student takes a cluster of Oral Communication, Reading, Written Communication, and Pronunciation & Vocabulary, totaling approximately 20 hours per week. In addition, students work with audio, video, computer software, the Internet and an online grammar program.

Levels 4, 5 & 6 are non-intensive (8 hours per week) and are "university level bridge" courses, designed to "bridge" pre-academic ESL and academic courses.  They focus on the English academic skills you need to succeed in a university.  In addition to one of these university bridge classes, the full-time academic ESL student normally takes additional college writing classes.

Levels 1-2: This course is designed for students to improve basic listening and speaking skills.  Through a variety of materials and activities, students are encouraged to share their ideas and practice their English.  Upon completion of this course students should be able to understand and engage in a simple conversation, communicate basic needs, and give a short report.

Levels 3-4: This course is designed for students to improve the listening and speaking skills necessary to study at a university.  Students listen to lectures and engage in debates and discussions.  In addition, students may observe academic classes at the University.  Upon completion of this course students should be able to understand and take notes on lectures, participate in group discussions and give oral presentations.

Levels 5-6: This course is designed for those students who are already working in the professional program but do not yet have a sufficient mastery of English to ensure success. Students will have opportunities to learn and broaden their vocabulary of business and design program terminology. Students will also be guided to use the language in their class discussions, collaborative research, presentations and interpersonal communication.

Business English
This course is designed to give students an introduction to communicative English in work settings. Students will learn basic interviewing skills, telephone techniques and how to write simple business correspondence in English. International workplace culture will be introduced through an interactive learning process.
