Hello dear readers! My name is Alexandru Ghitescu, I am a Romanian Motion Graphic Designer and I came in China 2 years ago to teach Visual Communications and Graphic Design at Raffles Design Institute in Changchun. In this moment, I feel a tremendous joy and honor, but also a great responsibility in being selected in this admirable and great collection. I must confess that even from my childhood I admired Chinese culture and customs, and being here in China, living, feeling and discovering Chinese people’s qualities every day, make me appreciate even more this wonderful country.

As a teacher, I strive to show to my Chinese students’ different techniques, issues, trends and influences in graphic design, but at the same time, I learned from them a lot about Chinese culture. I wish to express a special thanks for the time and knowledge of my special Chinese colleague and friend, Gavin Sun 孙明阳, who helped me to understand many interesting details about Chinese painting, calligraphy, myths, poetry, songs, design, customs and language. Thank you Gavin!

Also I wish to say thanks to my beautiful wife Andreea Pasca, who inspire me every day and I consider is my celestial muse. Thank you Andreea!

In my experience, I have often wanted to combine different techniques and ways of visual expression, believing that the imagination cannot be stopped because of the technique. So, I followed a continuous circuit from the design idea → drawings → photos → computer and back to the main idea, separating, combining, and extracting intersected meaning elements that compose my work. It was not easy! Final idea did not come at once, but little by little: I’ve started, I’ve studied, I’ve compared, I’ve selected, I quit, I returned, I changed, I changed again, until I crystallized in reaching the final variant of the tiger’s face.

I am trying to end here, not before to suggest to all the readers of this book, (and not only) to use their full imagination and what is the most important thing, to not leave their thoughts and projects only in their mind but to put on paper. You must dare, try, experiment, seek, explore new visual techniques, participate in more competitions.

Andreea
