Raffles CU International College (RCU) is a joint venture between Changchun University and Raffles Design Institute which is a subordinate of Raffles Education Corporation. It started in 1999 and is approved by Jilin Ministry of Education. RCU is located in the Changchun University main campus. Today there are more than 1000 students and nearly 80 staff. RCU’s lecturers come from all over the world.
The college is a junior college and recruits students from all over China. There are two kinds of enrolment: The National Enrolment System (NES) and the Private Enrolment System (PES). NES enrolments will study in RCU for 3 years and will be awarded with a Graduation Certificate by Changchun University and a Diploma by Raffles Design Institute upon successful completion of the entire program. We enroll PES students who are high school graduates or have earned a vocational institute certificate four times per year, at the beginning of January, April, July and October, PES graduate will be awarded with a Certificate of Completion by Changchun University and a Diploma by Raffles Design Institute upon successful completion of the entire program. (Diploma by Raffles Design Institute is verified by the State Ministry of Education.)
The tenet for jointly setting up an international college is to provide a high quality education to students and to help cultivate senor professional design and business administration talent with both creative and practical abilities. Upon completion of the courses the students are especially suitable for employment within foreign enterprises. To further this aim, we recruit excellent foreign lecturers who employ the most up to date teaching and training methods.
Raffles CU International College (RCU) currently has 3 Academic Departments offering 4 Diploma Programs. The three Academic Departments are: the Business Administration Department, the Visual Communication Department and the Product Design Department. The Department of Business Administration currently offers 1 program – Diploma in Business Administration. The Department of Visual Communication currently offers 2 programs – Diploma in Interactive Media Design & Diploma in Graphic Design. The Department of Product Design currently offers 1 program – Diploma in Product Design. The college has another two Departments – English as a Second Language Unit (ESL) and the Social Science Unit. The college encourages students to participate into a variety of Student Organizations and encourages them in a variety of activities, such as the arts, music, science, cultural activities and sport.
All courses offered by RCU will be taught in English. Students are divided into small class sizes to help strengthen their English language skills. The English Courses include three parts: Basic English, Applied English and Commercial English. The English Courses will be taught by experienced Chinese and foreign lecturers.
RCU students must fulfill respective professional assignments in English assigned by foreign lecturers. It is necessary for RCU to offer ESL classes to improve students’ English. All ESL classes will be taught by professional ESL lecturers and through this study they will acquire both the necessary academic skills and the ability to communicate in English. This forms a solid foundation for the students’ later study.
