INTERIOR DESIGN
Intakes: January, April, August & October
Duration: 2 Years
COURSE OVERVIEW:
What do Interior Designers do? How many times have
you walked into a home, an office, an upscale hotel
or restaurant and were struck by the beauty of your
surroundings? Maybe the decor is sophisticated,
modern, and urban. Or maybe it suggests a
comfortable country house or a traditional colonial
estate. A well-designed environment makes you want
to stay or return; a badly-designed environment
makes you want to leave and never come back.
Interior designers are the people who wield all this
power over your mood by designing indoor
environments that are pleasant, safe, and yet
functional. Some interior designers specialize in
large projects such as hotels, hospitals, airports,
or major office buildings. Others work on a smaller
scale, helping clients to design their private
homes.
You will learn that interior design is so much more
than choosing paint colour and hanging up paintings
on the wall.
The focus of study is on the environmental design of
the home, office or commercial space, the design of
products and furnishing, and materials that will
enhance the aesthetic and functional systems.
This course provides intensive training for students
to become professional interior designers. Emphasis
is placed on space planning, creative
problem-solving, communication skills and knowledge
of building materials, construction, computer-aided
drafting and the history of design.
